Modern nail cosmetics became available during the early twentieth century. Cuticle remover was introduced first, and then liquid nail enamel. The first colorless polish was made from an alcoholic spirit varnish. This gave a gloss to the nails, but no color. Later, color solutions could be purchased separately and mixed with the colorless polish to achieve a desired shade.

In 1938, opaque cream-type polish replaced clear polish. After this development, fashion experts began to match lipsticks with nail enamel. Manicuring treatments were at one time a luxury enjoyed only by the aristocracy. Today manicuring is not a luxury but an essential of good grooming for both women and men. Attractive hands and nails are important to a person's way of life or profession. Many women pay special attention to skincare, make-up techniques and wardrobe planning, which are good things to be conscious of, but all of forget to take proper care of their hands.

A person's age can often be judged by the condition of their hands. Don't let your hands make you look older than you are. The most common problem for hands is dehydration, which leads to chapping and, eventually, aged appendages. A woman's hands are abused constantly. Wearing gloves whenever cleaning, as well as taking preventive measures to insure proper protection with hand creams will certainly help. After taking a bath or shower, take a few moments to care for your cuticles by pushing gently on each nail with a terry towel. Your feet should be kept as attractive as your hands. An occasional pedicure will help keep your feet looking their best.

In addition to the techniques of the Metropolis Essential Manicure, this concentrated, relaxing and highly therapeutic spa manicure also includes a highly effective heat-activated alpha-hydroxy hand treatment to combat the drying effects of our intense desert sun. After the application of the rejuvenating alpha-hydroxy acids, the formulation is then activated by either a hot paraffin dip or steamy hot towels. Paraffin Bath Treatment
This treatment, designed for hands, feet, arms and elbows uses the industry's best beauty enhancing paraffin. Not even close to the same paraffin Grandma used to seal her Mason jars. Several types of high-grade paraffin are incorporated. You will begin with a rich, hydrating moisturizer and hydrating mist.
